Hi Everyone!

Fireflysci-scientific-glassblowing-1.jpg

So we have some very exciting news to share with everyone.  Over the past few months, we have been working on a project that gives you a whole new way of getting custom projects faster and easier.  It also gives us the ability to offer you even more options on what you can get from FireflySci.

Ok, so what is the great new addition?

So we've been working on adding a brand new scientific glass blowing shop right here in our Staten Island branch!  Yes, we're super excited about this and the amount of value it adds to our product line and of course the value it brings to you.

What is Scientific Glassblowing?

Scientific glassblowing is the process of creating glass/quartz parts and apparatuses that are used in a laboratory.  Many people get confused and think that this is like "soft" glass blowing, which is a very different way to shape glass.

Scientific glassblowing is also known as flameworking or lampworking.  This type of glass blowing uses what is called "hard" glass which is borosilicate, pyrex, quartz, etc.  Flameworking requires much higher temperatures than soft glass and the work time, once the glass is molten, is only about 12 seconds which means you have to be precise and accurate.  Also, if you make a mistake when shaping the glass/quartz it is very hard to fix so perfection is the key to scientific glassblowing.

What Kind of Stuff Can you Make with Scientific Glassblowing?

Cuvette Washer made by scientific glassblowing!

The possibilities are endless with what can be made from glass/quartz.  We can make any type of setup that you need such as:

  • Cuvette Washers
  • Attachments and additions to cuvettes
  • Manifold setups
  • Vacuum systems
  • Beakers
  • Flanges
  • Custom joints
  • Analytical Apparatus

How long is the lead time for Custom Projects?

So this is the most amazing part!  Since we have a scientific glassblowing shop right in our office, we can have custom designs finished in 1-2 weeks.  Do you need a joint or valve attached to your cuvette and you don't have time to wait 8 weeks?  Great!  We can have that cuvette ready for you in 2 weeks tops.  Pretty awesome right?

As usual, we have our amazing customers to thank for this advancement.  Without you, we wouldn't be able to make this possible, and we would just like to say a big THANK YOU for supporting us and what we do here.  We are going to keep expanding and growing in order to help you get what you need faster and easier and of course with a smile =).

If you have any questions or want to send us a sketch, please send us an e-mail to info@fireflysci.com.

We look forward to you taking advantage of this new service and reaping the benefits.

To your glassblowing success,

The FireflySci Team
