Understanding FFS Part Numbers

There has been a number of calls we've been getting about how our part numbers work.  So here is a quick guide on how to decode our part numbers.

Part Number Example: 1FLUV10

Here's the breakdown:

Type Number

The first number is the Type, in the above case it would be Type 1.

The second set of letters (FL) is only present when the cuvette is a fluorescence cuvette.  So Type 1UV10, with no (FL) would be a spectrophotometer cuvette.  

Other part numbers may also have a letter such as:

18MUV10 - "M" stands for black masking

18BUV10 - "B" stands for bottom raised 9mm 

18BMUV10- "BM" stands for bottom raised AND black masking

Material

The "UV" is the material, in this case UV Quartz.  Other material codes are below:

  • G - Optical Glass
  • P - Pyrex Glass
  • UV - UV Quartz
  • IR - IR Quart
  • S- Sapphire
  • PMMA- Acrylic
  • PS- Polystyrene
  • PUV- UV Plastic

Lightpath

The last number is the lightpath of the cuvette.  In our example it is 10 mm.

Z-Dimension

Note - There are some specialty cuvettes that have a letter after the lightpath such as 701MUV10.10B.  In this case the letter "B" represents the Z-dimension of the cuvette.

Here is how the Z-dimension letters work for the 701M/701MFL cuvettes:

  • A - 8.5 mm
  • B - 15 mm
  • C - 20 mm

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

There are a couple of extra additional designations that may come up depending on the configuration of the cell:

  • MS - magnetic stirrer variation of cell (e.g. Type 1MS)
  • UHV - Ultra High Vacuum variation of cell (e.g. Type 61FLUHV)
  • S - occasionally used designation for screw cap variety of cell (e.g. Type 34S)
